Bentonite Clay Liner (GCL): Bentonite clay liner (GCL, JG/T 193) fixes sodium bentonite between two geotextiles; it swells over 24 times on hydration to form a low-permeability gel layer (GCL-NP ≤5×10⁻¹¹ m/s) and can self-seal small cracks. Install by lapping ≥250mm in staggered (pin-zi) pattern with about 0.4 kg/m bentonite powder in the lap; damp subgrade is acceptable but never install in rain or snow, and cover with ≥300mm backfill promptly.
GCL sandwiches sodium bentonite between geotextiles by needle-punching, film lamination or adhesives. On hydration the bentonite swells 24+ times into a dense gel with self-sealing ability. No welding is needed — laps are sealed with bentonite powder. Produced to JG/T 193.
