1. Product Overview

GCL sandwiches sodium bentonite between geotextiles by needle-punching, film lamination or adhesives. On hydration the bentonite swells 24+ times into a dense gel with self-sealing ability. No welding is needed — laps are sealed with bentonite powder. Produced to JG/T 193.

Lay top-down on a prepared base, lap ≥250mm in staggered pattern with bentonite powder in laps, fix at crest trench, and cover with ≥300mm backfill. No welding, but never install in rain.

QGCL vs HDPE membrane?

Membranes give the lowest permeability but need welding; GCL installs fast on damp bases and self-seals. High-grade containment often uses GCL + HDPE composite liner with a leak detection layer.

QCan GCL be used on damp ground?

Yes if no free water; rain or snow installation is prohibited, and installed areas must be covered before rainfall.
